We Are Not Competent Enough?

As regard to the article posted by Wan Hamidi Hamid from Malaysian Insider, and the comments given by the readers, I would like to ask, are we, students of UiTM placing ourselves in the safe bucket without having competent enough if we were to be compared with the non-malay students of other IPTAs? They who made such statements have no rights at all to say that we are not competent enough. what do you define competency my friends? is it by having our non-Malay friends in the same pool will only give us the fight? are we complaisant enough to be the students of UiTM?

I must say here, the admission to UiTM is more easier if we compare the requirements that imposed by the other universities. but after having the seat, the chances and the standard are barely the same, and in some circumstances, our standard are above the par. we have international lecturers who come from overseas, including the chinese and indians lecturers. In IPTA, as i am very sure that our administration possess that same mentality – if u are not competent enough, we donot hesitate to vanish you out from this university, as this applied to the UiTM as well. the standard are barely the same.

I quote one comment from the above article, – The problems that Malays have today is a direct result of not being challenged intellectually. By churning them out of university in masses by lowering the passing mark is not helping them. Only if you go hungry will you appreciate success. Only if you challenged will you rise above yourself. Having non-bumiputra’s in UITM will help archive that.

Another reason why they should allow non-bumiputras to enter UITM is that it will promote friendship among the different races. – written by Sheik.

Well Mr.Sheik and the person who are responsible to make such proposal Khalid Berahim, the boneka Mentri Besar, do we need chinese and indians to be part of our family as they are part of us already as Malaysians? and secondly, is there any necessary to have other races to boost up the competency between the UiTM students? Are you think that we are not studying and just playing around while waiting for our scroll? Is the scroll can be bought by discount of for free? Are you think that we dont feel the heat of competing each other because we are majorly in the Malay community? If yes, you are totally wrong.

Furthermore, we are not taught to be rude to other races as we was being told to respect them and they are meant to do the same thing as well. we come from different background, where mixed-marriage are concerned. By having one Malay in one spouse, enough to produce one bumiputra children I must say. But we did not insult each other, since we understand the essence of the article 153 meant to be. we also come from a different place, which also majorly occupied by the Chinese and the Indians constituency. we donot hate them when we enter UiTM. Infact, we brace them.

By opening the 10% quota will eventually nurturing our racial integration? if such, I look upon the formation of the Bangsa Malaysia, and this could be done if only this “racial integration” could be assured to be done if we were to abolish this rights. but will it become into reality? I suppose the other races are putting on discrimination against each other as well, then how do we expect this will become reality?

We have to come back to history. by understanding the history, we will understand the present days. by respecting history, we will respect each other. we are not ready yet to bury off the bumi and non-bumi status. At such, lets continue our journey…

The fact is that you need others for you to appreciate many things. It is not simply a matter of petty class competition. When early Muslims built education centres, they invited non-Muslims. One such university was the Almansoora in Iraq built by the Abbasid Dynasty. When the Muslim Calipha was asked why he was inviting non-Muslims, he answered: “To make Muslims compete and make them the best”. Everyone knows Iraq became a centre of intellectualism and science.

    good one siddiq. =)

  3. To Abdul. first and for most, are u part of uitm’s family in the first place? do you know what is in uitm actually by the way? many people didnt understand. uitm is not a mere university. its a pride and dignity of the Malays. i am not trying to be racist. ok. if such, give 10% of maxis to us! give 10% of genting to us! give 10% of UTAR to us!

  4. commonsense says:

well..well..your english tells a lot abt your stds Dr. Siddiq…with all the mistakes..you are incompetent too…are you one of the UiTM products?

  5. GayLord says:

Sadly, i feel left out for not being a Malay in this case. Racist is the word, even though I am a uitm kid. The fact that many people attach the word “Malay” to my university makes me feel like a fish out of water. Every time this issue comes out.

10% is not like opening a floodgate to all the other races into uitm. Their intake could be in our advantage, such as a stringent selection as to which members of the chinese or indian for that matter, should be made eligible for entry into uitm, so as to provide the necessary competition. For example, they need to be only the high-achievers. And their school fees should be comparatively higher than us Bumis. It does sound viable now, right?

    Sigh… after all, its malay-sia, not ma-in-chi-bumi-sia…

  6. its too complicated to discuss about this. i did not disregard the chinese and indians position as the Malaysian born, but having this last defense to be open up to the non-Malay is not suitable to be discuss now, as what Tun M said yesterday, this issue should remain as it is, for a while…

  7. mohd fadhli yahya says:

well well to commonsense.. AND YOU FROM WHICH PRODUCTS? such a cowards.. dont you dare to insult Uitm..

  8. mohd fadhli yahya says:

making a mistake is a commonsense.. learn from mistake.. and fix it.. learning from a mistake is a key of success.. that is what we learn in Uitm

  9. paan says:

yo commonsense, stop acting so high and mighty

  10. GayLord says:

Commonsense, you have grammatical error too, so rather than attacking people’s grasp on the english language, stick to the main idea pls.

So anyway, are we so hypochondriac as to be startled whenever there is a goddamn suggestion with regard to equality?

Some people are a tad too paranoid, i.e. kuat melatah. You know what I’m saying?

And to the other commentators, don’t you have anything significant at all to say other than spamming this website?

Good effort, Siddiq. Address important issues, although we may not agree with each other at all times. At least this serves as a forum for us all to leave our 2 cents for the betterment of all

  11. Thanks for the support guys..for a better malaysia!

    Siddiq steady beb! haha

UITM is designed for bumiputras, which not only includes the malay but also orang asli, iban, kadazan and other ethnics from sabah and sarawak. Penduduk pribumi la, senang nak cerita. There are so many university and collages in Malaysia, why still need a place in Uitm, right? But it’s wrong to blame the chinese and indians in this matter. Afterall, they are not the one who raised the issue in the 1st place. Sadly, it comes from our own Malay so called ‘leader’, a big mouth who start this mess for his boss, and him,to gain some political mileage. Maybe there will be some naughty posters or bloggers in here who will try to incite our hatred from one to another races. Peace and Wassalam

  14. Logically Thought says:

“give 10% of maxis to us! give 10% of genting to us! give 10% of UTAR to us!” this is what matters to me. almost all the private companies are ‘reserved’ for their races too. tell me is it not hard for the malays and bumis to find a job in the private companies? HARD! the malays n bumis have to work for years in the same level, paid lower than the other races, for the longest years before they get promoted.. unless if they are the so-called the ‘gem’. thus this uitm privilege is crucial!
p/s our journey before and after independence moulded the malaysians to find their own ways to survive.. let it be that way

  15. charlie says:

By all mean, keep UiTM as 100% bumi institution if you think that it is good for bumi, as long as there is no impact on other races who want to expose to an open competitions in order to progress.

I’m amuse with this question “is there any necessary to have other races to boost up the competency between the UiTM students?”
Well, if the bumis honestly think that UiTM’s closed door competition is good for the development of Malay race in, let it be, I really wish your dream come true & hope proof the world is wrong in open competition to raise standard. Furthermore, you will be able to proof to the world that one don’t need to learn from the best in order to be good and hence Harvard and Oxford were all wrong in the past.
You may be right that UiTM undergrad could be working very hard in their study but so far, do they have a good benchmark to strive toward? Is Dr Ibrahim a good role model?

Yes, we should understand history so that we learn the lesson of what is right to do to develop the nation. As long as there is the mindset of “this and that” is 100% for one race, the so call journey will be forever. You won’t reach your destination.

Furthermore Dr Siddiq, don’t ask people to give you this and that. You should learn how to walk on your own.
BTW, after reading a few posts by Dr Siddiq, I think that he is not that racist honestly. It is the mindset that he posses. And I totally disagree with “commonsense” opinion.

  16. GayLord says:

    I second that.

And to Logical Thought, the reason why you lose the argument is that you hadn’t realized that the fact that the non-bumis who conquer maxis n genting did not acquire such monopoly thru the insidious tactic of manipulating the Federal Constitution or any other instruments of the government. They fought it fair and square, with their might and ingenuity.

We didn’t. We need the FC to claim our “supposed” right. We need to instill assabiyah to fend for ourselves.

The only reason the Chinese are reluctant to employ us is because they know that we are racist to begin with. So its only natural that they act provocatively. Even dogs bark when you act in hostility towards them.

    Pls malaysian, open your eyes.

  17. GayLord says:

To brandish the ad hominem of how the Chinese refuse to employ us is not just a selfish point of contention, but it also carries with it a malevolent sentiment.

It hinders the much-sought unity, because apparently unemployment frustrates you more than the collapse of our generation.

I have worked with Chinese before, in the earlier stage of my life. And yes they proved to be industrious, but extremely helpful to me, a non-chinese. When they grow up, they seem to have very distorted views of the non-Chinese. Why? Because we are racist against them. And we got ourselves to blame. I didn’t do anything wrong. But that was “I”, not “we”.

  18. yup. gaylord got his point there.

  19. Am i? says:

Good article.. To give any percentage is not acceptable. Even converting ITM to UiTM was a big mistake gave 50% of the privillege, now all the so call college already converted to Uni College which most of them are by non bumi.. Thanks again for the brilliant leader… So why give more…

In 1992, the first batch of non Bumi’s was given opportunity to be part of MRSM (if not mistaken 2% at that time), in the name of “to make Bumi’s more competitive”, is it really work? So why try more…

The only thing that need to change is the attitude of the student and lecturer, to make such competitive environment for competent product among bumi’s, less spoonfeeding etc. So can they give more…

I am the product of Mara(MRSM and ITM)and always proud of that. Not give up any more…

  20. MZMA says:

Salam, esp to uitm students and alumnis.

Yeah,I’m uitm student too.And also an ex-maresma TGB he he.

Congrats to uitm SA students and also the MPPs for teaching khalid babi a great lesson, and they also had bravely risked their future(to being caught under AUKU and then being suspended or terminated) for the sake of our future generation…err i mean our cute little brothers and sisters esp those from rural areas….for me uitm is their birth right and no one, including khalid babi and his “penjilats” (remember carburetor dung) has rights to challange this.

Who cares about reactions from non malays, who cares huh?

We the bumis, until now have been giving soo much of our rights to them since the independence and what they know is to take, take and take………….

I’ve became sicked already with this scums. Now It’s time for us bumis not to give anymore, enough already.

If they have guts to challange us, we’ll fight them.

And if they are dare to raise their fists against us, we’ll kill them!!

MRSM students have proven themselves to be successful without presence of non bumis, and UiTM too will prove to the rest of malaysians that presence of non bumis are not essential for the success of bumis.
